KPV Canada — Lys-Pro-Val Tripeptide RUO Identity Notes (Not Stocked)

KPV as a laboratory identity record: the Lys-Pro-Val sequence, formula, mass, the free-acid, amide and acetylated forms, and certificate checks. Not stocked. RUO, 21+.

Hermetica Research Labs does not currently stock KPV peptide. There is no KPV product page, lot or certificate of analysis on this site, and nothing on this page is an offer to sell KPV. The notes below are for laboratories documenting KPV obtained from another supplier, or recording it as a component of a blend. They cover structure, labels and certificates only and do not discuss use in humans or animals. Research Use Only framing; buyers of Hermetica catalogue lines must be 21 or older.

What is KPV peptide?

KPV is a tripeptide: lysine, proline and valine joined in that order (Lys-Pro-Val). Xiao et al. (2017) describe KPV as the lysine-proline-valine tripeptide. The sequence is the last three residues of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), which is why laboratory documentation often calls it an α-MSH C-terminal fragment. As a laboratory material it is a small, water-soluble synthetic peptide usually supplied as a lyophilized powder. Because it is so short, the identity question is less about sequence errors and more about which terminal form is in the vial.

Three forms that share one name

Form Change Approx. mass
KPV, free acid None ~342.4 Da
KPV amide (KPV-NH2) C-terminal –OH replaced by –NH2 ~341.4 Da
Acetyl-KPV (Ac-KPV) Acetyl group on the N-terminal amine ~384.5 Da

In the parent hormone the valine is amidated, so a supplier may sell either the free acid or the amide under the same short name. Record the form the supplier states, and check that the certificate's mass agrees with it.

Why a small peptide still needs a careful certificate

At about 342 Da, KPV sits beside the smallest peptides in the Hermetica catalogue: GHK-Cu (about 340.4 Da before copper binding) and Epitalon (~390.35 Da). Small size brings its own documentation issues:

  • Counter-ions weigh a lot relative to the peptide. An acetate or trifluoroacetate salt can make up a large share of the powder mass, so the stated fill mass and the actual peptide content can differ considerably. Erckes et al. (2025) review analysis and exchange of TFA as a counter-ion in synthetic peptides and argue that residual TFA should be specified separately from HPLC purity.
  • Mass confirms composition only. The ~1 Da gap between free acid and amide needs high-resolution data to resolve.
  • Proline isomers. Peptides containing proline can show split or broadened HPLC peaks. A chromatogram helps interpret the purity figure.

KPV inside blends

KPV is commonly included in multi-component research blends sold under trade names such as KLOW. In a blend, KPV's low mass means a per-component amount and a component-specific identity result are essential; a combined purity figure says nothing about the KPV portion. See KLOW peptide notes.

Receiving record

  1. Name, stated terminal form, fill mass and lot as printed.
  2. CAS number as supplied, with the form it refers to.
  3. Certificate issuer, test or accession number, and confirmation on the issuer's own system.
  4. Reported mass, purity with method, and net peptide content if given.
  5. Supplier storage statement.
  6. A note that the material is an in-vitro laboratory reagent.

KPV peptide in Canada: catalogue status

Hermetica does not currently stock KPV, so there is no KPV peptide price, SKU or certificate on this site. If a KPV line is added, it will have its own product page and lot-matched certificate, linked here and from the catalogue. Canadian laboratories documenting KPV from another supplier can use this page with the HPLC purity guide and the third-party testing explainer.

FAQ

Does Hermetica stock KPV?

No. Hermetica does not currently stock KPV. There is no KPV product page, SKU, lot or certificate on this site, and nothing on this page is an offer to sell KPV.

What is the KPV sequence?

Lys-Pro-Val (K-P-V), a tripeptide. Xiao et al. (2017) describe KPV as the lysine-proline-valine tripeptide; literature commonly records it as the C-terminal three residues of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone.

Why do free acid, amide and acetyl-KPV matter on a certificate?

They differ in mass (about 342.4 Da free acid, about 341.4 Da amide, about 384.5 Da Ac-KPV). Record the form the supplier states and check that the certificate's mass agrees with it.

Why can HPLC purity and fill mass diverge for KPV?

At about 342 Da, counter-ions such as trifluoroacetate can make up a large share of the powder mass. Erckes et al. (2025) review why residual TFA should be measured separately from HPLC purity. Net peptide content, if reported, addresses peptide mass; HPLC purity does not.

Does this page give dosing or use guidance?

No. These notes are for laboratory identity and certificate documentation only. There is no information on amounts, administration, effects or outcomes in people or animals.
